Mission Statement:
The Volunteer Center of Johnson County (VCJC) focuses its activities on four core competencies: connecting people with opportunities to serve, building the capacity for effective local volunteering, promoting volunteering, and participating in strategic initiatives that mobilize volunteers to meet local needs. The mission of the VCJC is to promote and advance volunteerism through education and training.
Program History:
This year the VCJC celebrated 38 years of helping people help others. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, VCJC has played matchmaker to thousands of nonprofit organizations needing assistance - and countless volunteers eager to help them. Since 1970, organizations serving a myriad of causes from animal advocacy to violence prevention have relied on the VCJC as their source for volunteers who want to make a difference.

The VCJC has a partnership agreement with 270 nonprofit organizations from the metro Kansas City area. In addition volunteer managers from the neighboring communities of St. Joseph, Missouri, Joplin, Missouri, Topeka, Kansas and Lawrence, Kansas have participated in the certified volunteer management-training program.
These partners meet standards, submit annual reports, and place their volunteer needs on the VCJC website.
The VCJC has working relationships with area Chambers, City Governments and Civic organizations. The VCJC provides volunteer opportunities, training, consulting services and information about volunteerism to these community organizations.
The VCJC works with area businesses to promote Employee Volunteer Programs, provide training to staff and to arrange “Days of Service” opportunities for these businesses.
Nationally, the VCJC is a member of the Points of Light Institute/Hands On Network to connect with other Volunteer Centers/Hands On Affiliates and share best practices.
