Mission Statement:
Almost Home strives for innovative ways to rescue and place animals into loving environments. We are an organization that consists of volunteers with varied interests and experiences, all working towards the betterment of animals. By working within our own group, assisting and educating the public on spaying and neutering, and working with other rescues and sanctuaries, we will see a significant change in the perception and treatment of all animals.
Almost Home believes that every animal deserves a loving home regardless of appearance, age, or physical limitation. We have come together to give animals in need the safe and happy life they all deserve. Almost Home Animal Rescue believes that no animal is expendable.
Philosophy/Belief Statement:
OUR GOALS
With your support, we hope to continue to do the following:
Rescue animals and locate loving foster and permanent homes. We work closely with local and national rescue organizations to rescue and place animals in the care of loving foster families until we are able to place them in their permanent homes.
Promote spaying and neutering programs. Although Almost Home does not have its own spaying and neutering program, we work closely with veterinarians and other rescue groups that offer such programs at a discount. Four to six million pets are euthanized in America each year due to overpopulation and lack of proper homes...we hope that with a strong spay/neuter program, we can lower these numbers and save precious lives.
Educate. We are passionate about sharing our experience and knowledge with the local communities. With public outreach, we hope to educate both children and adults alike in proper pet care and humane treatment of all animals. If you would like us to speak at your school, business, or group meeting, please see the link included to the left of this page. We are also interested in using some of our rescue pets as therapy animals in hospitals and other care facilities. If we can help in this area, please let us know.
Effect positive change. We seek to ensure that local ordinances and regulations are the most favorable possible for the welfare of animals.
Program History:
Almost Home was created by a concerned set of volunteers who were committed to keeping adoptable animal in foster homes prior to their adoptions. The purpose being that animals who are familiar with home-life will be more adoptable and can be better matched with the appropriate family. In addition, a foster family can provide physical and psychological rehabilitation, as well as, an extensive variety of experiences for the pet prior to adoption.
Events:
Adoption events every Sunday during PetSmart business hours at the PetSmart on Morrell Rd. in Knoxville, TN. Other event times and dates are available, please contact us.
Additional Information:
Almost Home Animal Rescue is an all-foster home organization. Our volunteer opportunities consist of foster care, adoption events, fundraising, and assisting foster homes with animal care. Please contact us for exact dates and times, but opportunites are available at all times, and the number of volunteers accepted is unlimited.
