Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada
Thank you so much for expressing interest in volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada (BBBSN)! We’re excited that you have taken the first step in the information gathering process to determine if this is the right volunteer opportunity for you.
A Big Brother/Big Sister is a young adult or adult friend who is able to help a child reach their full potential by spending time together, one-to-one, in a match relationship formed and supported through the local Big Brothers Big Sisters agency. Because everybody needs somebody they know they can depend on, the most important characteristic of a “Big” is commitment. Commitment to seeing your “Little” consistently, as well as providing them with friendship and guidance.
As a Big Brother/ Big Sister we will pair you up with a child (Little) at a local elementary school. There-you will spend one hour per week, on a set day, at a set time with your Little. Thirty minutes of your time MUST be dedicated to helping your Little with school work and the other thirty minutes can be used to enhance your friendship by playing games, chatting or doing whatever activity is available to you at that site. A BBBSN staff person will always be present during these site match meetings, to offer their support and guidance.
Because a child needs at least one year of consistent mentoring in their life to realize a positive change- we require that all of our volunteers be able to make at least a one year commitment to the program and their Little. We also ask that you have lived in the area for at least six months and have been employed by your current employer for at least three months.
If this sounds like an opportunity that you’re interested in pursuing further, please review the list of locations/times that we are offering currently and contact Jenna Byrd @731-2227. Each location has children who are ready and waiting to be matched.
