Mission Statement:
To prevent and treat child abuse and neglect in the Greater Richmond area.
Philosophy/Belief Statement:
Child abuse and neglect can be prevented through education, support and advocacy. All children deserve a safe and permanent home but when they are subjected to abuse and/or neglect, children should be afforded professional treatment and support as the victims of trauma.
Program History:
Founded in 1991 in response to the rapidly growing rate of child abuse and neglect in the Richmond area, Greater Richmond SCAN is dedicated solely to the prevention and treatment of abuse and neglect. SCAN provides awareness, support, treatment, education and advocacy to enhance the lives of children, particularly children at high risk for abuse and negect. SCAN's programs and services promote positive parenting, strengthening families and creating a community that values and cares for its children. SCAN's programs include The Family Support Program, The Child Advocacy Center, Richmond CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), The Circle Preschool and The Families are Magic (FAM) Prevention Program.
