The Mission of The Holiday Project is to enrich the experience of the holidays by arranging visits to people confined to nursing homes, hospitals and other institutions
Philosophy/Belief Statement:
Adopt A Home Program allows students to focus on the gift of contributing to others and on the gift of allowing others to contribute to them. Many of the people we visit, especially those who reside in nursing homes, live as if they no longer make a difference in society. When our visitors sit down with them, spend time with them and listen to them, the people visited are often left with a very real sense that they can still contribute to others. This is an extraordinary gift.
Program History:
The Holiday Project was incorporated in July 1980 in California as a nonprofit public benefit corporation.
The Holiday Project is a national non-profit organization of thousands of volunteers who, every year, visit with hundreds of people spending Christmas and Chanukah and other holidays confined to hospitals, nursing homes and other institutions. The Adopt-A-Home Program was created 5 years ago to have visits to nursing homes happen more frequently and by school age children as a community service program.
Events:
The Holiday Project Adopt-A-Home Project was designed to support those who work with adolescents either in a school environment or group organization, encouraging them to begin to volunteer at an early age. By using the easy-to-follow check-list, a busy educator, group leader or even kids, can complete all the tasks of the project.
