Mission Statement:
Minnesota Sheltie Rescue is an all-volunteer non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming Shelties in need.
Program History:
Formally established in 2003, Minnesota Sheltie Rescue has successfully placed over 350 Shelties in forever homes (as of 12/09). In addition to helping homeless Shelties, we support Sheltie owners in the community through education, training and outreach efforts, and present humane education programs to children upon request.
Additional Information:
Our greatest need is foster volunteers. We do not operate a shelter, and we are dependent on available foster homes to take in Shelties in need. Our foster volunteers are carefully screened, paired with a Sheltie that is a suitable match, and offered support and resources.
For those unable to foster, there are other ways for people of all ages to support Minnesota Sheltie Rescue:
-Donate (or have a drive to collect) a crate, dog bed, leashes/collars, Kongs, Buster Cube, Comfort Zone D.A.P. diffuser/refills/spray, clickers, videos on clicker training, treats, towels, soft blankets, X-pens, baby gates, grooming supplies, baskets for our raffles, office supplies (stamps, envelopes, staples, copy paper, HP 93/94 or 56/57 inkjet cartridges, bins, file folders, etc.), cleaning supplies (paper towels, pine cleaner, trash bags, pet stain remover)
-Post/hand out brochures at area pet-friendly businesses and vet clinics (be sure to ask for permission of the business first)
-Volunteer at raffles, fundraisers and other events
-Collect change or do a penny drive to donate to MNSR for Shelties who need medical treatments
-Have a yard sale and donate a portion of the proceeds to MNSR
-If you are crafty, make something to donate to our raffles/silent auction fundraisers
-Plan a spaghetti dinner or other event and donate the proceeds to MNSR for vet bills
