Mission Statement:
The mission of Restart, Inc. is to empower and support persons with brain injuries in achieving their highest level of independence through community living and support services.
Philosophy/Belief Statement:
We provide a unique model of services that includes designing structured Program Plans that emphasize independence, re-teaching of skills lost as a result of injury, teaching compensatory strategies to address cognitive impairments, and focus on our residents achieving self-sufficiency.
Program History:
Restart, Inc. was founded in 1986 when the family of a young man, who had a traumatic brain injury (TBI) resulting from a motor vehicle crash, could not find a place to live that would address his needs, understand his strengths, assist him in compensating for skills he had lost, and support him in living as independently as possible. Since 1986, Restart has walked together on that journey to independence with many survivors of brain injury, providing supportive housing with specialized services as the person moves to self-sufficiency.
Restart has offered a safe, stable living environment in the form of family-sized community homes to persons who are some of the community’s most vulnerable adults. From our first site in South Minneapolis, we have grown to 6 residential sites in Minneapolis, Robbinsdale, Brooklyn Center, and a Supported Independence Program, in downtown Minneapolis, offering a continuum of services from addressing daily physical cares to assisting those almost ready for community reintegration.
Persons with brain injuries can have fulfilling lives and reintegrate into the community if they have specialized support services. The foundation of our mission is human rights - every person's right to dignity, quality of life, equal access to opportunity, gainful employment, and to be an active member of a community.
