Mission Statement:
Spay the Strays, Inc. is an all volunteer, 501c3 non-profit organization. Our mission is to reduce the feral cat population in Osceola County, FL (outside Orlando) through TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) and to place the many wonderful cats and kittens left behind into loving homes.
Program History:
We manage about 70 colonies of stray and feral cats in the Kissimmee/St. Cloud (Florida) area on a daily basis, and do adoptions at Petco in The Loop (3246 N. John Young Parkway, Kissimmee FL) every Sunday. We feed the colonies daily, get medical treatment for cats that appear to be sick or injured, and monitor the colonies for any newcomers who are then spayed/neutered.
Events:
We do cat adoptions at Petco in The Loop (3246 N. John Young Parkway, Kissimmee) every Sunday from 12 - 4 pm
Mark your calendar for our annual Cat Scratch Fever Golf Tournament on Saturday, November 6, 2010! It's at Kissimmee Bay Country Club and is our main source of income. We need a chairperson and other committee members, golfers, sponsors and auction donors. E-mail spaythestrays@aol.com for more info.
Additional Information:
Volunteer Opportunity #1: We manage about 70 colonies of stray and feral cats in the Kissimmee/St. Cloud (Florida) area on a daily basis. We feed the colonies daily, get medical treatment for cats that appear to be sick or injured, and monitor the colonies for any newcomers who are then spayed/neutered! If you can volunteer as a caregiver to help manage one or more colonies and make sure they get fed every day, please e-mail spaythestrays@aol.com
Volunteer Opportunity #2: We need foster homes! Spay the Strays and our foster network are at full capacity! We need more foster homes in order to take new cats into our adoption program, especially with kitten season underway! We are an all-volunteer organization and do cat adoptions at Petco in The Loop (3246 N. John Young Parkway, Kissimmee FL) every Sunday. We do not have a shelter, so we rely on a network of foster homes to take in cats until they find their permanent, loving homes. The more foster homes we have, the more stray cats and kittens we can help and save from life on the streets. We cover the cost of veterinary care for all of the cats in our foster homes. spaythestrays@aol.com
Volunteer Opportunity #3: Spay the Strays is in desperate need of a volunteer with grant writing experience. We need someone to research and find companies and foundations that offer grants to support spay/neuter (otherwise known as TNR or Trap-Neuter-Return ) and veterinary care for sick/injured stray and feral cats, and then write the grant. spaythestrays@aol.com
Volunteer Opportunity #4: We need a chairperson and other committee members to help plan our fourth annual Cat Scratch Fever Golf Tournament at Kissimmee Bay Country Club on Satuday, November 6th. This is our main source of income for the year. We also need volunteers to work the day of the event. spaythestrays@aol.com
Here are some ways you can be a Humane Hero:
· Ask your teacher if your class can participate in Spay the Strays “Pennies for Paws” campaign, or take up your own coin collection from friends, classmates and relatives!
· Save your spare change in a jar and donate it to Spay the Strays at the end of each month (you can even do extra chores to earn money from your parents!)!
· Make craft items, dog/cat toys/treats & sell them at school or church & to friends and relatives!
· Hold a bake sale at your school and/or church and donate the proceeds to Spay the Strays!
· Offer to mow someone’s lawn, pick up sticks in their yard, wash their car, etc. in return for a donation that you can give to Spay the Strays!
· Have a garage sale and donate the proceeds to Spay the Strays!
· Consign old clothes to benefit Spay the Strays!
· Ask friends/relatives to make donations to Spay the Strays in honor of your birthday or special occasion instead of gifts!
· Throw a birthday party for your pet and ask guests to bring items and supplies that can be donated to Spay the Strays instead of gifts for your spoiled pet!
· Take up a “wish list” collection for Spay the Strays (cat litter, cat food, etc.)!
