Program History:
The Bidwell Riverside Center Pantry is the highest-serving food pantry in Des Moines, and we provide services to a unique cultural and economically diverse population. Serving an average of more than 4000 individuals monthly, we have been helping families in poverty since 1893 (127 years).
Additional Information:
Volunteers are needed to pull food orders during this emergency situation. (Clients wait in their cars and cannot come into the pantry right now.) When not pulling orders, volunteers will help re-stock grocery aisles and sort clothing donations. We provide masks and gloves, and have implemented social distancing policies.
Questions about volunteering? Please contact Missy Reams at volunteers@bidwellriverside.org or 515-244-6251 option 5.
About volunteering: A volunteer orientation is provided when you first arrive to help, including an overview about poverty in the Des Moines metro and the impact COVID-19 is having on our community.
About Bidwell: At the Bidwell Riverside Center Food & Clothing Pantry, we provide basic necessities to families in need. Bidwell has been providing hope for 127 years to families and helps them bridge the gap, so that they can spend their hard earned money on other necessities besides food and clothing.
