Mission Statement:

Program History:
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Chaffee County first opened its doors in 2005. A group of community leaders, inaugural board members, city officials, school district leaders and parents worked collectively to create a safe, engaging and positive place for all children in Chaffee County.
Today our Club’s foundations are strong. We serve more than 750 kids annually and provide ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals, offer life-enhancing programs and foster a sense of community, hope and opportunity.
Additional Information:
The Boys & Girls Clubs in Chaffee County serve youth ages 6-18 years old. Our mission is to provide a safe place for youth to learn and grow through ongoing relationships with caring adult professionals, and through life enhancing programs and character development experiences. Our programs include Sports & Fitness, Technology, Arts & Crafts, outdoor play, Leadership Clubs, Teen Nights, a Learning Center where we offer homework support, and more. AmeriCorps members provide math and/or literacy tutoring specifically to under-performing elementary and middle school students. Through intensive one-on-one tutoring in school, programming after school, and all day programming during the summer, AmeriCorps members are able to truly impact the quality of education for underprivileged children who have fallen behind the curve.
This position will provide tutoring services in two small and rural communities. The Clubs are both located in Chaffee County, one in Salida and one in Buena Vista. This position is an AmeriCorps position and receives a living stipend, medical insurance, FICA, unemployment insurance, workman's comp insurance, and an education award of $2,887 upon successful completion of a term of service. All federal loans can be put into forbearance during the service term and the Corporation for National and Community Service will pay any accrued interest on said loans upon successful completion of the service term The term will begin early January, 2017 and will end July 31st, 2017.
