Mission Statement:
At Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco our mission is to provide local families with a springboard to secure, stable futures through affordable homeownership, financial literacy and neighborhood revitalization.
Philosophy/Belief Statement:
Habitat Greater San Francisco provides a hand-up, not a hand-out for families in desperate need of improved living conditions. Our homeowners invest 500 hours of "sweat equity" to help build their own homes as well as additional time for homeowner workshops. Houses are sold to partner families at no profit and are financed with affordable, zero interest mortgages.
Program History:
In 1989, Peninsula Habitat for Humanity was incorporated, the first step in our journey to providing homeownership opportunities to working families in this region. Habitat for Humanity San Francisco was founded just a few years later. These two organizations merged to become today’s Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco in 2008.
At Peninsula Habitat, Habitat San Francisco and Habitat Greater San Francisco, we’ve always had ambitious goals. We have always been an organization bent on looking forward to find inventive solutions to our area’s expensive real estate challenges.
To celebrate this anniversary, we’ll be sharing stories of 25 Years of Building Forward. You'll find those stories on our website and blog; in our e-News and print newsletters; on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube; and most importantly, living and forming everyday in the 200+ homes we've built, in the homes we're currently building, in the communities we work to strengthen and in the people who make it happen.
Events:
Habitat Terrace Build Site, Mt. Burdell Build Site, NR Work.
