Mission Statement:
The Department of Community Services provides a wide range of services to New Castle County residents and visitors that will strengthen families and individuals, build social capital, improve neighborhoods, and ensure places and spaces to live, learn, play, socialize and recreate.
Philosophy/Belief Statement:
Live Healthy New Castle County
Live Healthy New Castle County is about making it easier for everyone to live healthy and active lives. Live Healthy NCC is dedicated to increasing access to fresh and nutritious foods through the New Castle County Farmers Markets; providing affordable fitness activities, wellness programs, and health fairs at Community Recreation Centers; and encouraging residents to explore New Castle County Parks and discover the variety of free active living resources available in New Castle County.
Program History:
New Castle County government is the largest local government in Delaware and manages all areas of land use, including sewer services, planning, assessment, licenses, permits and inspections; and provides residents a wide range of public services including police, emergency services, finance, libraries, environmental services, parks, recreation and senior centers.
Events:
The Department of Community Services offers an array of programs for residents. Most are free to the public to enjoy. Examples of past programs include New Castle County Reads, Holiday Tree Lighting, Safety Town and many, many more.

The Department of Community Services programs would not be possible without its volunteers. The success of all our programs is because of all the volunteers who dedicate their free time in ensuring members of the public have a fun time at our events.
We offer a wide range duties for volunteers of all ages to participate in. Examples of volutneering duties can include welcoming people at the door to helping young anglers learn how to cast or make a fishing-related craft. The activies are varied and interesting and can suit different age groups include teens, seniors and groups.
